foundational

  • Can serve and return consistently into the correct area

  • Knows how to keep score and understands basic rules (double bounce, NVZ, etc.)

  • Developing consistent forehand and backhand groundstrokes

  • Beginning to sustain short rallies (3–5 shots)

  • Attempts dinks but often too high or inconsistent

  • Learning proper grip, paddle positioning, and ready stance

  • Movement is still reactive

  • Learning how to move with a partner

  • Just starting to understand when to move forward after return or serve

intermediate

  • Serves and returns are more purposeful (aimed deeper or to target weaknesses)

  • Can consistently hit dinks with intention, though not always under pressure

  • Improved footwork and court awareness

  • Starting to move as a team

  • Can volley at the NVZ with moderate control

  • Working on controlling pace 

  • Developing basic court positioning 

  • Starting to play soft game more regularly and effectively

  • May still struggle under pressure or against faster-paced players

Advanced
Intermediate 

  • Consistently hits accurate serves and deep returns

  • Uses third shot drops, drives, and resets situationally and with intention

  • Can dink crosscourt and straight-on with control and patience

  • Volleys with directional control and can handle fast hands battles

  • Understands blocking, resetting, and softening hard shots

  • Actively uses lobs, speed-ups, and strategic shot variety

  • Moves efficiently and covers court with partner
